A little over 48-hours after resigning at Springfield Catholic, former boys head coach Dustin Larsen has been hired at Strafford.
Larsen will replace Steve Frank as head coach of the girls varsity basketball team.
“Dustin is a perfect it and we’re looking forward to Strafford’s future,” Strafford Athletic Director Brett Bough said.
In two years at Springfield Catholic, Larsen’s Fightin’ Irish were a combined 51-11. Last year, Catholic finished as the Class-3 runner-up, falling in the state title game to Vashon. The previous year, Catholic advanced to the Class-3 state quarterfinals.
Larsen inherits a Lady Indians program coming off its fourth-straight Class-3 State title. Strafford has a 115-game win streak in place as well.
The timeline for this hire came about in less than a week. On Tuesday, both Larsen and Frank resigned as head coaches at their respective schools. By Thursday night’s school board meeting, Larsen was approved to replace Frank.
Frank said on Tuesday he is not retiring and not leaving the Strafford School District. With his twin daughters Hayley and Kayley both playing college basketball next year, Frank wanted time to watch them play.
Larsen does come to Strafford with previous experience as a girls varsity head coach.
