Kickapoo’s Mason Auer was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 39th round (1,182 overall) of the MLB draft on Wednesday.
Auer, a Missouri State signee, was a two-way force for the Chiefs this year. He features a fastball that reaches the mid-90’s on the mound. That velocity helped him to post a 6-1 record with 78 strikouts and a 0.79 ERA in 44.1 innings for the Chiefs. At the plate, Auer tallied two home runs with 15 RBI and 36 runs scored. He was often pitched around as evidenced by his 27 walks, which led to an on-base percentage of .496.
