Reeds Spring crept one game above .500 in coach Molly Illum’s second year with a record of 15-14 in 2018. The Lady Wolves will look to do even better than that this season.

“There are many factors that come in to play to have a successful season; consistency is a main one,” Illum said. “This is my third season as the head coach and I am looking forward to continuing to build a consistent program and guiding them in the direction we need to go.”

Illum returns her two all-conference selections from last year in Carley Reeves-Eakins and Kamryn Hopper.

“Kamryn and Carley are both great players and they have a desire and drive to be as good and better than last season,” Illum said. “My hope for both of those girls is to continue playing to the best of their ability and to stay healthy. Injuries were a huge hurdle for us last year, so we have been working very hard to get and stay healthy.”

Reeves-Eakins is still recovering from a knee injury that she suffered at the end of last season on the volleyball court. She will see her reps mainly as an outside hitter after leading Reeds Spring in kills last year with 103. Hopper will be the team’s libero. She led Reeds Spring in both digs (195) and aces (33).

All of Reeds Spring’s returning players saw varsity action last season. That group includes: seniors Ellie Silvius (outside hitter) and Aspen Romeiser (right side), junior Bella Fuller (middle/right side) and sophomores Amarah Porter (setter) and Brynn Hogan (middle). Fuller led the team in attack attempts (321) and was second in kills (99). Porter will see an increased role setting after accounting for 99 assists last season.

“My expectation is that the girls maximize their potential,” Illum said. “They all have different strengths and weaknesses, and the best teams are the ones that can utilize strengths and minimize weaknesses. There are some amazing girls in the program who genuinely love volleyball and strive to be better. My goal and hope is that they know they are loved by the coaches and their teammates, and become the best version of themselves throughout the season.”

Reeds Spring will open the season on Sept. 5 at home against Seneca.
