Fall 2019 Preview: Weaubleau Softball

Weaubleau softball will be looking to replicate a successful 2018 campaign that saw the Lady Tigers win a district title and come up just one game short of a Class 1 Final Four berth. They finished with an overall record of 20-6.

Jenna Daggett returns after earning first-team all-conference honors last year. She will be the primary pitcher for the Lady Tigers.

“(She has) great command is a very driven player with great leadership skills,” Weaubleau head coach Sue Ginnings said. “When (she) isn’t pitching she will split her time between shortstop and centerfield. I expect Jenna to lead the team in almost every category.”

At the plate, Daggett hit .500 with a 1.437 OPS last year. She scored 29 runs while knocking in another 29.

Sophomore Katie Ginnings will also see time in the circle.

Around the infield, senior Liz Stewart will play second base and bat leadoff. She had 30 runs scored to go with 21 stolen bases last year. Makayla Hostettler will move from centerfield to shortstop in her senior season. Classmate Kaylee Lower will play third base. The junior duo of Addison Durnell (first base) Celina Lambeth (catcher) will round out the infield.

Junior Haliegh Dryer along with sophomores Emma Breshears, Emma Sase, Grayce Hostettler, Katie Ginnings, Kayla Caulfield, Brinn Mitchell and Jayden Lower will be in the mix for playing time in the outfield.

“Our strength will be our numbers (with) lots of athletic girls fighting for playing time,” Ginnings said. “Consistent hitting from top to bottom will be the key for us to be successful.”

Weaubleau opens the season Aug. 30-31 at the Buffalo Tournament.
