Rogersville volleyball’s bid to repeat as the Class 3 state champion came up one set short on Saturday. The Lady Tigers fell to St. Francis Borgia in three sets (15-25, 25-18, 20-25) to finish second.

“I am extremely proud of my seniors, and all of my kids. After that first set we could have laid down and died, and I felt that we came back with some fire,” Rogersville head coach Tammy Miller said. “I thought we had a chance in that third set, but some things didn’t go our way. It was an awesome match. That is the way you want a championship match to be.”

Birdie Hendrickson led the way in her final match as a Lady Wildcat. She had team-highs in kills (19), digs (15) and blocks (2) in the match. Claire Taylor added in 10 kills over her own. Samantha Thompson led the offense with 33 assists.

Overall, Miller was happy with how her Lady Wildcats competed this year on the way to finishing with a 35-5-1 record.

“I am proud of my kids. They fought through adversity all season. It started out a little rough at the beginning of the season, and they kept plugging along and finished with a phenomenal season,” Miller said.
