Plato boys basketball has strung together six consecutive winning seasons. The Eagles have all the pieces to make that seven in a row in coach Michael Phillips’ second season as head coach.
The biggest reason for optimism is the return of senior Grady Todd. The forward averaged 21.5 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. He also shot 65% from the field. Todd is 181 points away from becoming the program’s all-time leading scorer.
Fellow seniors AJ Rodts (guard) and Josh Pyatt (guard) along with sophomores Levi Johnson (guard) and Case McClure (center) also return to the varsity lineup. Johnson was the leading scorer in that group averaging 6.5 points per game.

“We have a good group of guys who all get along. I think our bond will be better than last season,” Phillips said. “(We have to improve) outside shooting. We will be putting in the time on the shooting machine to make sure we get better.”
The Frisco League will be deep this year, but Phillips thinks his team can be in the mix for a championship.
“I would like to think that we can compete for the conference championship and play in the district championship game. We have some things to work on, but we will be tested during the season to get us ready for district games,” Phillips said.
Plato opens the season on Nov. 22 at home against Conway.
