Lincoln’s back in the final four, led by a name that haunts its opponents.
“It’s hard to take down 208 pounds running at you, but then you have to worry about him throwing,” said Lincoln head coach Kevin LaFavor.
His senior season, quarterback Jackson Beaman has nearly 3,000 passing yards, and over 1,500 yards rushing.
“If the run doesn’t work we go to the pass, if the pass doesn’t work we go to the run,” Beaman said.
The Cardinals are an all-around football team that hasn’t lost since last year’s state championship game. And heading into the semifinals, Lincoln’s goal is to remain undefeated, with a championship trophy in hand.
“At practice we’re practicing 150 percent every day. We don’t just want to get back there, this year we want to win it,” said senior wide receiver Bo Kroenke.
No matter how the season ends, when the final whistle blows, Jackson Beaman will leave the football field for the last time.
“We try to avoid that talk right now. He’s going to miss the game, we know that,” LaFavor said.
“Coach brought us seniors together and talked about what we’ve done for the program,” Beaman said. “I kind of looked around the stadium in Lincoln, and it was like, man, this place is special.”
But Jackson will trade one field for another, with plans to play baseball at the University of Missouri.
“He’s a great football player too, but I’m so proud of him just being able to go to Mizzou, which is his dream school, it really is,” Kroenke said.
Even with the excitement of playing Division-I baseball, Jackson hopes for two more wins in a Lincoln football jersey.
“I hope we can make a run at it, and I just don’t want it to ever end. It’s so much fun, and I’m so glad I’m part of it,” said Beaman.
