Mitch McHenry is in his third season as the head coach of the Kickapoo Chiefs

Kickapoo has brought back veteran players, while adding another vet to the coaching staff.

“I’ve had, for the most part, pretty young assistant coaches, so for finally being able to get a guy with a lot of experience, and with that being my father, has been awesome,” Mitch said.

After 30 seasons of coaching basketball, Denny McHenry joining his son as his assistant.

Before coming to Kickapoo, the two coached under the same roof at Logan-Rogersville. Mitch coached the boys, Denny coached the girls.

It was always the plan to coach together

But, after one year, Mitch went to Kickapoo and last season, Denny coached his daughter Maci, and the Lady Wildcats to a Final Four. After that, he was ready for this new chapter, finally coaching with his son.

It’s been an adjustment, but Denny wouldn’t have it any other way. Because in the end, it all comes down to what’s most important: family.
