On the basketball court, there’s always that one player coaches have to look out for.
Skyline’s Dax Beem is one tenacious Tiger.
“Go as hard as you can,” Dax says, “because you never know when it’s going to be your last.”
“He’s so energetic,” sophomore Lawson Beem says of his brother Dax. “He brings good energy to the team, and he can flat shoot it.”
With a loss, the senior’s high school career will come to an end.
The four-year starter is putting together a great postseason; including 22-points and a lock down defense to help capture back to back district titles for Skyline.
“Everyone sees the game,” head coach Tommy Egan said, “but the Sunday’s he comes in on his own. The Saturdays we have practice and he stays late and shoots.”
“My dad,” Dax credits for passion. “Go to the gym every day I can and shoot and get to this position I’m in now.”
The Tigers are hoping to avenge last year’s state quarterfinal loss and claim the program’s first state championship.
“This is what its always been about; a dream since I was 6. Get here and go even further.”
And making it a special last hurrah for Dax, watching the play of his younger brother. Sophomore Lawson’s huge three locked up the district title over Lakeland.
“I love the chance to play with him,” Lawson said, “and put a run together for him and all of the seniors.”
“This is our goal, make it back (to the postseason),” Dax said. “Last year was such a heart breaker, but get back to quarters and get over that hump (is the goal).”
Skyline plays Mid Buchanan in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
