Blue Eye will make its first appearance in the Final Four on Friday and it’s thanks in part to play and leadership of Kohnnar Patton.
Patton is one of the most dynamic players at Blue Eye since 2004 grad Tag Morris.
“They’re both great kids,” head coach Ken Elfrink said. “Very unselfish and they lead by example. They can score multiple ways.”
Kohnnar is a two-time all-state selection and SWCL Player of the Year with no doubt another round of those awards coming her way this season.
Like a true leader, she credits others for making her what she is on the court.
“I have the best teammates to make me look good I guess,” Patton said. “They are the best and I would be nothing without them.”
“Kohnnar reads the floor so well,” sophomore Avery Arnold said, “and it makes all of us better because of her.”
“(Kohnnar) draws a lot of attention for the other kids and then (her teammates) hit big shots,” Elfrink said.
Patton did her part in the state quarterfinals. Limited to just four points in the first half against Mansfield, she lead the charge for the Bulldogs down the stretch.
She finished with 17-points and that elusive Final Four appearance for the school and Elfrink who is in his 22nd year.
“I’m just so proud of her and all the seniors for getting to the Final Four,” Elfrink said.
Blue Eye plays Tipton in the Class-2 state semifinal, Friday at 4:30.
