His recruitment is just now hitting its prime.

Aminu Mohammed has exactly one year of high school left and the five-star recruit is starting to receive a lot of college offers.

And the Greenwood senior-to-be is taking his time; making sure that letter of intent is perfect.

“I just thank God for (college coaches) to reach out and say, ‘hey, we want to recruit you and come to our program,” Mohammed said.

That conversation has happened roughly 20 times for Aminu with more to come.  The coaches are all saying the same thing about the top recruit in Missouri’s Class of 2021 and the 12th best player in the nation.

“Come in and play right away,” Mohammed says he’s told by all coaches including those from Power Five schools.

“At the same time, I have to put in the work to make sure that is possible.”

While some are using the coronavirus as an excuse to take time off, Aminu sees this time as an opportunity to get in morning workouts – and afternoon workouts – followed by morning workouts – and more afternoon workouts.

He wants his college coaches to know his heart is just as committed as his name on the letter of intent.

“I hope they see a player who can lead a team, win games; just a guy that can play with anybody,” Mohammed said.  “A guy who can play different position, a guy that can come in and try to win.”

Don’t get Aminu wrong, right now his focus is on academics, his game, and his team.  The recruiting process and making a decision are secondary.

“I didn’t want anyhing to rush that decision,” Aminu’s guardian Shawn Harmon said.  “We’re just going to have to trust God that the right school will be there at the end of the day.”

Along with Harmon, Aminu is taking his time to learn about the programs, the coaches, and the universities.  He wants to do as much research as he can to make that fit be perfect.

“To me, it doesn’t matter what is said (over the phone); they can say whatever they want to say,” Mohammed said.

“He knows a lot of his hard work is paying off for him,” Harmon said.

Rivals currently has 18 schools recruiting Aminu:  Missouri State, Mizzou, Florida, Georgetown, Indiana, Kansas State, Louisville, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Seton Hall, Towson, Bryant, Wake Forest, Providence, Purdue, Southern Methodist, Washington, and Wisconsin.

Rivals and ESPN have Aminu as the second ranked shooting guard, and 12th overall player in the Class of 2021.
