“This could be our last day playing baseball, because that’s how it is normally when you’re a senior,“ said former Nixa baseball player Luke Hauswirth.

Luke has spent the last four years pitching at Kansas State University and because of the pandemic he’ll be back for year five.

“When it came down to it I was like yeah I’m going to go back, because I don’t want to say when I’m older that I could’ve gone back for another one just to try. So, this way I’ll always know,“ Hauswirth said.

Which also changed his plans for the summer — trading in his final course for time on the field.

“I was going to finish school in the summer and then start working, but once they announce this I canceled the summer class, came back here and I was like well, I’m definitely going to play if I can,” Hauswirth said. “So, I got in the show me leg, and I wanted to stay around the game so I got an opportunity to coach a 10 U team for the Nationals.“

Luke is getting his degree in mechanical engineering, but hasn’t completely given up on a future with baseball either.

“Knowing that I have my degree it’s not going to be a total heartache if I don’t get drafted. I just wanna make the most of baseball while I have it,” Hauswirth said.

Whether it’s his final season as a player, or just final year at K state, Luke expects to go out with a bang.

“I think we’re going to be really good, so whatever it is, whatever role I have I’m pretty much going to take it. Because I think the team is going to be really really good so any role I can fill I’m definitely going to be there waiting for the opportunity,“ said Hauswirth.
