The last two seasons, Weaubleau softball has been one win away from making it to the Final Four. And the Lady Tigers are hopeful that 2020 will be their year behind 3-time all-district senior, Jenna Daggett, our Arby’s High School Athlete of the Week.
“I think they know this is it. It’s now or never, you know,” said Weaubleau softball coach Sue Ginnings.
The Weaubleau softball team is on a mission after back to back years of losing in the state quarterfinals.
“I’m hoping to make it to the final four this year, but I just really want to be a good leader for my team,” said Weaubleau senior Jenna Daggett.
Last season, Jenna threw 129 innings with 189 strike outs and had a 3.20 ERA. As good as Jenna is from the circle, she bats just as well.
“It makes my job easy when I can trust her. I can trust her from the box, because she knows what’s going on,” Ginnings said.
“I bat in front of her and she just hits me in all the time,” said freshman Jaylee Daggett.
This is an extra special year for Jenna.
“I’ve grown up with most of these girls my whole life, and getting to play with them and getting to be with them means a whole lot to me,” Jenna said.
Getting to play with her softball family and actual family at the same time.
“It’s just cool being behind the plate when she pitches,” said Jaylee.
With her freshman sister, Jaylee, suiting up as the catcher.
“Sometimes we don’t get along as well as I’d like, but we’re working on it now and we’re getting along very well.”
Jenna and Jaylee bicker, like most teenage sisters do, but at the end of the day Jaylee looks up to her just like the rest of the team.
“When I was littler, I always dreamed of being her when I was older,” said Jaylee.
“What’s she say about that?” asked O-Zone reporter Taylor Kauffman.
“I haven’t told her,” Jaylee said.
Sorry Jaylee, I guess the cat’s out of the bag, and we think your sister is pretty awesome too. That’s why Jenna Daggett is our Arby’s High School Athlete of the week.
