After playing the front nine holes, Lily Allman’s golf game wasn’t where she wanted it to be.
The McDonald County senior, who bogeyed the first two holes of the day, sat at 3-over par halfway through the Carthage Invitational.
“I started off kind of rough but I think my coach told me to just take it one shot at a time so once I did that I started playing better,” Allman said.
Allman birdied the 10th hole, then the 11th, then the 12th and went on to make birdie on five-straight holes and six of seven overall.
When the day was done, Allman had carded a 2-under 69 to win first place by seven strokes.
“This is my best round of my whole golf career so today was definitely a good day,” she said. “It was fun, just a good day to be out playing golf.”
Allman was an impressive 5-under par on the tougher back nine holes – and that’s including a bogey on 17. Her effort helped the Mustangs finish third in the team standings with a score of 402. Jolie Stipp shot 105, Anna Mead shot 108 and Fayth Ogden shot 120.
Host Carthage claimed first overall with a score of 366. The Tigers had three individual medalists and four players turned in their lowest scores of the season.

Hailey Bryant’s 76 was good for second overall and was also the best score of her high school career. Shaely Garrison was seventh at 92, Caitlin Derryberry was ninth at 95 and Aubri Fisher added a 103. All three had season-low scores.
“As the season goes on just the more tournaments we play hopefully the better we should be getting,” head coach Lowell Catron said. “We’ve still got a lot of work to do. As I watched there were a lot of shots lost around chipping and putting. As always we just need to work on that.”
Carthage’s Kim Lopez, who played as an individual, shot 95 to earn eighth place.
Joplin finished second in the team standings at 395. The Eagles were led by Emily Delman, who finished fourth individually at 90, and freshman Campbell Waggoner, who shot 98 to place 10th. Sophia Schwartz added a 99 and Bella Sotlar shot 108.
“I’m so proud of the girls,” Joplin coach Shannon Neill said. “They had a good showing today and they’re excited with what they shot today.”
Webb City, with Sarah Oathout and Laya McAlister medaling, took fourth among the teams with a score of 416. Oathout’s 90 was good for third individually and McAllister finished sixth, also with a 90.
Seneca finished with a score of 440 and was led by Kaitlyn Soden’s 90, earning her fifth overall. Madison Babbitt shot 111, Britany Adcock shot 116 and Olivia Clark added a 123.
Nevada’s Katie Pennington shot 100 for the Tigers, Riley Severance shot 109, Libby Barrett shot 114 and Paige Hertzberg finished at 120. Their team finished at 443.
Carl Junction was led by Anna Burch’s 105 as the Bulldogs scored 449. Jasmine Worerner shot 112 and Rylee Sprague and Chloe Mitchell each shot 116.
Monett’s score of 478 came from Claire Nation’s 112, Jisell Canales’ 114, Alondra Areolla’s 118 and Jenna Spencer’s 134.
