New Covenant’s Savannah Thessing wins C1 state golf

New Covenant freshman Savannah Thessing dominated the second round of the Class 1 state golf tournament to win the state championship. Thessing was tied for fifth after a round one total of 92. That put her six strokes off the lead. On day two, Thessing shot a blistering 81 to come back from six strokes down and win the tournament by two strokes. No other Class 1 golfer shot better than 88 on Tuesday.

Thessing finished with a two-round total of 173.

This was the first year of golf for New Covenant Academy. Maggie Moore also placed in the Top 15 for New Covenant with a two-day total of 202. See a video package above about New Covenant starting up golf this year.

Cole Camp’s Riley Bright (13th), Stockton’s Jenna Rickman (16th) and Greenwood’s Yile Melody Wang (22nd) all finished in the top 25.
