“He’s just really hard to defend. You can’t take one thing away, he’ll get you somewhere else,” Thayer head coach Matt Pitts said.
Go to a Thayer basketball game and Jordan Andrews will catch your eye.
“I don’t even know where to start — basketball, I’ve played it ever since I can remember. I just think it’s the funnest thing in the world; just everything from the swishes to everything,” said Thayer junior Jordan Andrews.
His passes, his shot, and his speed; it’s all the product of the time he’s put in.
“I try to be in the gym as much as possible. The only way to get better is to practice, so I just try to be in there as much as possible,” Andrews said.
“It might be five in the morning and he’s in there, and it might be coming after a late game. He’s put in a lot of time, maybe moreso than any kid I’ve ever had. He’s really a gym rat in every sense of the word,” said Pitts.
As a junior, he’s been key in Thayer’s 4-0 start to the season, involving wins over Lamar and Carthage.
“I mean, we play together all the time and we’re all really close, so I think it’s that chemistry that makes us really tough and we can pull off some of that crazy stuff,” Andrews said.
And there’s no telling how much better he’s going to get.
“I think the sky’s the limit with him. He’ll continue to work. He wants to be the best that he can be, and he will be. He’ll be a great player, he is right now, and he’s only going to continue to get better,” Pitts said.
