ST. LOUIS – Missouri State sophomore Isiaih Mosley (G, Columbia, Mo.), the league’s top scorer, was announced as Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week on Monday, the conference office announced.

It is Mosley’s third MVC Player of the Week honor this season, having also earned that distinction back-to-back weeks, Jan. 5 and 12. Along with Gaige Prim’s Player of the Week performance on Dec. 23, the Bears have earned the honor four times this season – matching the 2010-11 squad’s high-water mark for the program.

Mosley played all but six minutes of Missouri State’s sweep at Illinois State last weekend and averaged a team-high 21.5 points per game with 7.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists per contest. He started a pivotal 10-1 Bears run in the second half of Game 1 in Normal that took a tie game and turned it into a nine-point MSU advantage at a key juncture in the game. He went on to score 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting in that contest.

The next day in Normal, Mosley was everywhere in Game 2 against the Redbirds. He posted 24 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists, including MSU’s last 9 points of the contest to help the Bears win their third straight at Redbird Arena for the first time ever. His 3-pointer with just over 10 minutes to go erased a one-point Redbird lead, and with two Mosley buckets turned it into a seven-point Bears advantage two-and-a-half minutes later.

At 21.4 points per game, the Bears standout ranks 10th nationally among all NCAA Division I players in scoring and is the nation’s No. 2 sophomore scorer.

Valparaiso’s Sheldon Edwards was named MVC Newcomer of the Week after helping the Crusaders top previously-unbeaten Drake on Sunday.

Mosley and the Bears return to action Wednesday at JQH Arena when Missouri State entertains rival Southern Illinois at 7 p.m., to kick off a three-game home stand.
