Robinson scores 24 as No. 4 Drury rolls Southern Indiana

EVANSVILLE, Ind.— The fourth-ranked Drury Lady Panthers pulled away from Southern Indiana in the second quarter and rolled to a 93-64 on Saturday at Screaming Eagles Arena in Evansville, Indiana.

Drury raised their record to 13-1 and sent Southern Indiana to 11-5.

With the game tied a 22-22 after the first quarter, the Lady Panthers burst to a lead, outscoring the Screaming Eagles 22-9 in the second period. Drury continued to build on the lead in the second half and went up as much as 33 in the fourth quarter.

Paige Robinson, who didn’t play in the second quarter while her team pulled in front, still managed to score 24 points on 8 of 12 shooting from the field. The junior from Bethany, Illinois, was also 5 for 8 from three-point range. Emily Parker added 15 points, while Azia Lynch had 13 points and eight rebounds.

“This was a great team effort, and I’m really proud of our kids,” said Drury head coach Amy Eagan. “Our kids executed our game plan to perfection. They are physical, but we rebounded really well today.”

Drury owned a 40-29 advantage on the boards and forced Southern Indiana into 22 turnovers.

The Lady Panthers also managed to put 93 points on a Screaming Eagles team that was leading the conference in points allowed and field goal percentage by their opponents. While USI was giving up only 36 percent from the field to opposing teams, Drury shot 53 percent on Saturday, hitting 34 of their 64 attempts.

“We took really good shots,” noted Eagan. “We moved the ball really well. We pushed it in transition when it was there, and I thought our ball-screen action was good today.”

Ashley Hunter had 20 points to lead Southern Indiana and was their only double-figure scorer.

Drury’s victory marked the 200th career win for head coach Amy Eagan. Eagan, who is in her first year at Drury, is now 200-143 over 12 seasons with stops at Truman State, Ashford, and St. Ambrose. It was also Drury’s 30th consecutive road victory.

Drury’s game on Tuesday against Truman State has been canceled due to a positive COVID-19 case within the Bulldogs program. Drury’s next scheduled game is now Thur., Feb. 18, when they host Indianapolis at 5:30 pm in the O’Reilly Family Event Center.
