Blue Eye baseball will be looking to improve on a one-win fall campaign that saw the Bulldogs lose six games by two runs or less.

Michael Crews will be the lone senior on the roster.

“Michael was our ace in the fall and when he threw strikes he was effective. We will rely on his arm a lot in the spring,” Blue Eye head coach Dustin Ewers said.

Juniors Brandon Box, Daniel Jones, Dakota Powers, Lance Clark and Braedon Boyd will give Ewers five more upperclassmen to look to for leadership.

Ewers on Brandon Box: “Brandon will spend some time behind the plate for us as well as on the mound. Brandon will be relied upon to be an anchor behind the plate.”

Ewers on Daniel Jones: “Daniel will see time at second for us as well as sometime in the outfield. Jones will need to continue to step up as a leader for us on the infield.”

Ewers on Dakota Powers: “Dakota spends the majority of his time in left field and at the top of the lineup. Dakota has good speed and is a threat to steal when he is on.”

Ewers on Lance Clark: “Lance Clark spends the majority of his time in centerfield and will be relied on to anchor down the outfield for us. Lance has good speed and is a threat on the base paths.”

Ewers on Braedon Boyd: “Braedon does a good job defensively and we expect him to make a breakthrough offensively for us this spring.”

Sophomores Logan Isbell and Landon Murrey along with freshmen Colton Spinning and Trey Lippe return from the fall team.

Ewers on Logan Isbell: “Logan is solid defensively for us at shortstop. Isbell has good hands and has the capability of making big plays for us on the infield. Logan’s bat has improved from his freshman year and we will look for continual improvement.”

Ewers on Landon Murray: “Landon spent time at first for us this fall. His ability at the plate will help us and he will see sometime in the heart of the lineup.”

Ewers on Colton Spinning: “Colton has natural ability on the infeidl and has the ability to play third base, shortstop and second base. Colton’s bat improved throughout the fall and we expect that to continue in the spring.”

Ewers on Trey Lippe: “Trey played third base for us in the fall and did a good job stepping in as a freshman. He has natural ability at the plate and we hope to see improvement from the fall.”

Sophomore Alex Labrier and freshmen Cayden Murray and Nickolas Fuller were identified as newcomers to watch.

“We will look to improve upon last fall. Last fall we finished 1-9 with six games that were two run or less. We will look to get over the hump this spring with the experience we gained from the fall. We will need to improve in every facet of the game. Our goal will be to improve daily with hard work, and to take care of the little things,” Ewers said.
