Greenfield softball took a big step forward in 2019 posting a 12-14 record on the way to a district title.

That momentum was halted with the cancelation of the 2020 season.

Now, the Lady Wildcats will look to compete for another district title with several players from that 2019 team returning.

“For the girls that played a part in the 2019 District Championship season, they are ready to get back out on the field. The first day of practice will be a huge win for all of us. Being able to travel and play ball together is a win itself,” Greenfield head coach Jennifer Roberts said.

Four varsity letter winners return in Jaden Baker (senior third base), Ashley Daniel (senior second base), Morgan Wright (senior shortstop) and Cynika Manary (junior pitcher/outfield). Manary will be relied on heavily in the circle pitching this year. Sophomore Addison Kinder will be another key piece of the pitching for Greenfield.

Sophomores Marlie Wright and Trista Torres will each see time behind the plate at catcher in their first season of varsity softball.

“Our Lady Wildcat team comes into the 2021 season knowing how a softball game needs to be played. They are a very talented group of girls on and off the softball field. Speed and fielding will be a key to our success for this season,” Roberts said. “The lack of experienced players is going to impact this season. This group of girls will meet this adversity and strive for success.”

Greenfield will open the season Mar. 19-20 at the Sarcoxie Tournament.
