Aurora girls soccer will be looking to make up for lost time after last year’s cancelation cost the Lady Houn’ Dawgs valuable developmental time.
“The loss of last season puts this team in a hole because of a lack of opportunity to play soccer outside of the school. There is a lack of advanced youth programs in our city. It puts the program another year behind,” Aurora head coach Mike Thach said. “I think every student athlete this year is extremely excited to have a spring athletic season. Our players were very disappointed that the season was canceled last year especially right before our games were to begin.”
Angelina Alcoba, Devany Davis, Sarai Trejo and Jasmine Lopez are four players that should be strong leaders. Alcoba and Trejo will play in the midfield while Davis and Lopez anchor the back line at defender.

Up top, junior Balla Mazzio and foreign exchange student Ana Lopez will play forward. Junior Emma Azzaro along with sophomores Mitzy Melchor and Katlyn Fischer will also play in the midfield. Ellie Creasy and Jacey Lee will play defender.
Senior Bethany Rogers will be the No. 1 goalkeeper with Lee beginning to learn the position.
“The strength of our team will have to be in our desire to play as a team. No one player will be able to dominate for this team,” Thach said. “We must find a way to put the ball in the net this year. We are always in games, but just haven’t found a way to score more goals.”
Aurora opens the season on Mar. 20 at the Cassville Tournament.
