Purdy in the post season is nothing new, but the Eagles haven’t been to the final four since 2017, and a win against Hume will get them there.
“Since COVID hit last year, we wanted to come out and do something special, and these seniors have just been leading us all year long,” said Purdy head coach Lori Videmschek.
This one was scoreless through 5 innings, thanks to outstanding pitching from Lauren Schallert, only giving up 2 hits in 7 innings and racked up 19 strikeouts!
“Lauren has been great all season. We trust her every single day, and she’ trusts us too behind her,” said senior Kinsley Mattingly.
Finally in the 6th inning, Purdy opens things up starting the inning in the top of the order with senior Kinsley Mattingly, she doubles to get things going.
This would turn into a 5-run inning for the Purdy Eagles.
“Once we got that first run, we loosened up a little bit and it helped us,” Videmschek said.
Purdy would add 5 more runs in the 6th inning to go up 10-nothing.
Purdy beats Hume, 10-to-2 advancing to the final four.
“It feels amazing. My freshman and sophomore year, we lost in this game. As seniors to be able to go to the final four, it’s amazing. I’m excited,” Schallert said.
“I remember my freshman and sophomore year we were in this place, and we lost both times and we knew what we wanted this year,” said Mattingly.
These Purdy seniors have been in this position twice before — just one win away from making it to the Class 1 state semifinals — and this time they did it. They are advancing to the Class 1 state final four where they’ll play Advance.
