Lexi Berry leaves Bolivar with an All-State trifecta

In a world where athletes tend to commit to one sport, recent Bolivar grad Lexi Berry chose three.

“I can usually pick up things pretty easily,” Berry said.

Basketball was her first love, soccer came shortly after, and when she got to high school she added tennis.

“Anything I do I just really want to be good at it, so I started taking lessons,” said Berry.

All of that led to a state championship her senior season, and a first team All-State honor — the first of three she’d get in the same year.

“A three sport All-State athlete, a state champion in tennis, I mean it’s just incredible. And a great leader on top of that,” said Bolivar soccer coach Steve Fast.

That accomplishment is even more impressive when you think about the time she has to divide between all three.

“We really didn’t see her much until the spring and it didn’t take her long to make her presence made,” Fast said.

“Being All-State is definitely an achievement, and a lot of people are proud of me and that’s just fun to see,” said Berry.

But for Lexi, it was about more than that.

“The memories I made and all the friends that I made through sports are far more meaningful than any award I got,” Berry said.

As she moves forward, she’s choosing basketball, playing here in Springfield with the Evangel Crusaders.

“I really want to be a coach, so I’m just ready to learn and grow as much as I can, and put in the work that I need to put in and hopefully win,” Berry said.

That’s one thing Lexi Berry knows how to do.
