He’s an ace,” said coach/assistant worship pastor Cody Miller.
“Even the people we play against, they’re just shocked,” said teammate Maranda McGhee.
Harrison’s Vic Snyder doesn’t go unnoticed.
“Everybody the first meeting they guess that he’s somewhere in his 60s or 70s. He’s 90 years old about to turn 91,” Miller said.
But he’ll tell you, he’s only as old as he feels.
“Like I tell everybody, I’m sweet 16,” Snyder said.
“He’s supernatural I don’t know what it is. He dives for balls, you kind of hold your breath for a minute when he dives and, he makes big plays,” said Brian Herring the lead pastor at Harrison Faith Church.
“I haven’t played softball since I was in high school and I was literally dying out here, and he was running around me like it’s pathetic,” McGhee said.
It’s not a question of whether he can play, but why does he?
“You know you stay healthy, you got to keep going. You can’t sit around. That’s what catches up with everybody,” Snyder said.
If I told Vic I had a tree fall on my house he would be there with a chainsaw within a matter of hours. No matter what it is Vic doesn’t think of himself. He always thinks of others first,” Herring said.
Everyone is impressed with what Vic is capable of at 90 years of age, but what people seem to admire about him the most is his selflessness, whether it’s helping a neighbor with yard work or being the primary caretaker for his wife.
“She’s got dementia and I’ve been taking care her for five years now. She’s the love of my life. We’ll be married 67 years in September,” said Snyder.
Vic is a loving husband, a Korean War vet, a jokester and an inspiration to everyone.
“My goal one day, and I told my mom, I want to be him. I struggle to be him now at 23 years old, like it’s, it’s incredible. Like just the determination he has,” McGhee said.
“He makes me feel bad because I can’t, I can’t outwork Vic I can’t outdo anything. I think, you know, one day I want to grow up be like Vic, but I have a feeling Vic’s going to attend my funeral,” Herring said.
“Well, I’m proud to be that. And that they think of me that way. They’re great bunch of folks,” Snyder said.
As sure as church on Sunday, everyone who comes in contact with Vic is better because of it.
