Hurley volleyball has a new head coach in Harper Little leading the team this year. She will have two all-conference seniors to lean on in her first season as head coach looking to help Hurley bounce back from a five-win season.

“Maraya Schimmels is a setter and she always works hard on and off the court. She has a lot of experience in the role of a setter and she will be the one the girls look to for help,” Little said. “Our other leader will be Mylee Chamberlain. She plays outside and she has a very strong arm. She also has a lot of varsity experience. Since there were no seniors last year, she already knows how to be a leader on the court.”

Lauren Green (junior outside hitter), Ashlee Robertson (junior middle hitter), Lexi Small (senior defensive specialist) and Kourtney Fausett (senior outside hitter) also return.

Freshmen Madison Conrad (middle) and Jaema Schimmels (setter) will make an immediate varsity impact.

“We will be returning all of our team from last year and we will also be adding a strong freshman class. We have been in the weight room and have worked hard all summer, which is already paying off. We also have a senior class with a lot of varsity experience that will help this season,” Little said. “The girls have improved over the summer. The main thing that we need to improve on is fundamentals of the game. The girls are so athletic that they do not have trouble picking things up. So just getting into the gym constantly will help them improve on their fundamentals tremendously.”

Hurley will travel to Southwest on Aug. 24 for a jamboree with Cassville, Purdy and the host. The Lady Tigers will open the season on Aug. 27 at home against Fordland.

“I think my biggest expectation for this year is just to get better. The girls really improved on some areas over the summer and I am very excited to get back into the gym and see what the girls can do,” Little said. “I want people to know who Hurley volleyball is and I want the girls to have confidence this year in their team and themselves.”
