Missouri State overcomes early 14-0 deficit to beat South Dakota 31-23

Missouri State turned a 14-0 deficit into a 31-23 win at home against South Dakota on Saturday.
South Dakota jumped out to a 14-0 lead on Missouri State just 2:32 into the game.
The Bears were able to stop the bleeding with a seven-play, 75-yard drive that ended in a 26-yard touchdown run be Jason Shelley.


The two teams remained scoreless through the next two quarters until Shelley found Tyrone Scott for a 46-yard touchdown to tie the game with 1:52 before the half.


South Dakota would answer right back with a 64-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The Coyotes added a field goal as time expired in the first half to make it a 23-14 lead going into the break.

The third quarter was a defensive struggle with the Bears coming away with a 42-yard field goal to make it 23-17 at the 4:31 mark. It was the only scoring of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Missouri State finished off a 12-play, 74-yard drive with a three-yard touchdown pass from Shelley to a wide open Kevon Latulas to take a 24-23 lead with 13:02 left in the game.


After back-to-back punts, Missouri State intercepted South Dakota quarterback to set the offense up at the South Dakota 27-yardline.
Missouri State needed three plays before Shelley rushed 12 yards for a touchdown and a 31-23 lead.


South Dakota turned the ball over on downs, but got the ball back on a fumble recovery. The Coyotes were able to march down to the Missouri State red zone, but Montrae Braswell iced the game with an interception in the end zone to give Missouri State the win.
