Pleasant Hope girls basketball is poised to win double-digit games for the first time since 2013-14 with the entire varsity roster returning from last year’s eight-win team.
“I have lucked out and have all my returning varsity players,” Pleasant Hope head coach Kami Bohnstedt said. “These girls have played the past three years together. Each of them will be team leaders. Knowing how each other works will help us stay on top of our game. I have four seniors Alexis Daugherty (guard), Rachel Jenkins (guard), Abbey Swearengin (post), and Cheyenne Wolf (post). I have two juniors who have started every year Jaylin Miner (guard) and Kylie Tucker (guard). I have a sophomore Graci Wolf (forward/guard) who really stepped up as a freshman last year. Each of these girls play full hearted. If I need something done I know I can put them in and get it done.”

Miner was the team’s lone all-conference selection last year. She was named All-Southwest Conference Honorable Mention.
Freshman forward/post Lexi Perryman will look to crack the varsity rotation.
“I had one freshman come out to all summer activities and has shown she can be young and hang with the older crowd,” Bohnstedt said. “She may not be big, but she can hold her own in the paint.”
Pleasant Hope will travel to Galena for a jamboree with Marionville, Billings and Galena. The Pirates will open the regular season Nov. 29-Dec. 3 at the Everton Tournament.
“Our greatest strength is already working together and knowing what needs to be done,” Bohnstedt said. “Something we need to work on to improve our success is controlling the ball on our side of the court. Making defense work hard to stay at our pace.”
