Spokane boys basketball posted a fourth consecutive winning season in 2020-21 with a 17-9 record overall. Senior guard Jaden McCoy and junior post JD Tate had a lot to do with that record. They both are returning starters this year.
McCoy averaged 12.1 points and 4.2 rebounds per game as a junior. Tate, who stands at 6’8, averaged 13.5 points and 9.2 rebounds per game while shooting 57.1% from the field. He earned first-team all-district and second-team all-conference honors.
Fellow junior Jace Leigh is a returning letterman.

Luke Wasson (junior), Ricky Riott (sophomore), Wiley Armitage (junior) and Grayson Goodall (junior) will all contribute on varsity after helping lead Spokane’s junior varsity to a 14-3 record.
“We want to be a balanced team with the ability to score consistently inside and outside,” Spokane head coach Terry Writer said. “Our depth and overall experience is an issue, but if we can stay healthy and play as a team we expect to be a contender in our conference and districts.”
Spokane travels to Aurora on Nov. 16 for a jamboree with Norwood, Crane and Aurora. The Owls open the regular season on Nov. 19 at home against New Covenant.
