Warsaw will be fairly young this year, but the Wildcats do return three starters from last year’s team which finished 7-14.

Senior Brady Slavens will lead the basketball team as he did the football team in the fall. Slavens averaged 12.5 points and 8 rebounds per game on his way to second-team all-conference honors last year. He will be one of just two seniors on the roster.

He will be joined by fellow returning junior starters George Montez and Tayten Boyer. Montez averaged 8.5 points and 3.8 rebounds per game last year. Boyer chipped in 3 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.

Senior Grant Chapman was the sixth-man last year. Sophomore Riley Taylor played junior varsity last season but will see major varsity minutes this year.

The junior trio of Reece Brazel, Joe Vorce and Brycen Clark along with the freshman quartet of Jayce Depriest, Josh Bunch, Garrett Ferguson and Shane Poyser will be newcomers to watch.

“Warsaw will be much more athletic and skilled despite the fact that we are relatively young,” Warsaw head coach Scott Floyd said.

Warsaw will travel to Stover for a jamboree on Oct. 16 with Montrose and Stover. The Wildcats open the regular season on Nov. 23 at Sweet Springs.

“Warsaw returns three starters, but will still be young with sophomores and freshmen receiving varsity minutes,” Floyd said. “Despite the lack of upperclassmen, I like our chances of becoming more competitive as the season progresses.”
