Verona girls basketball returns two starters from last year’s team that finished 14-9 overall. Paige Bauer was among the graduated players. She was named the Ozark 7 Conference Player of the Year. Second-team all-conference honoree Sydney Gamroth along with Courtney Freiburger and Kendra Nungaray also graduated.
Sophomore America Castillo and senior Anehli Reyes are the returning starters. Yoselin Martinez returns for her senior year after missing last season due to an ACL tear. Junior Violet Tosh and sophomores Zoe Saylor and Meghan Long are the other returning letterwinners for Verona.

“This year we are going to focus on getting better day by day. With a very young group, we will have to really focus on our skill development. We return only 6% of our scoring from last year’s team,” Verona head coach Brandon Weiss said. “This group of girls really know how to play defense. We will need to play extremely well on this end of the floor.”
Verona will host a jamboree on Nov. 15. The Wildcats open the regular season with their home tournament Nov. 20-24.
