Macks Creek girls basketball will have a good mix of experience and youth this year with five seniors, one sophomore and five freshmen expected to contribute.

Seniors Molly Phillips (forward) and Taylor Rich (forward) will be leaders on the team. Phillips averaged 6 points and 8.3 rebounds per game for Macks Creek last year. Rich averaged 2.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.

“Molly, a three-year starter, is our leading rebounder and is a competitor in all that she does. Our freshmen will look to her for her experience on and off the court,” Macks Creek head coach Ron Duggan said. “Taylor Rich will be another one of our leaders. She’s a tough player and a good defender.”

Freshman Brooklyn Duggan will also be looked to for leadership running the point in her first season.

“She (Brooklyn Duggan) takes charge on the court and will be instrumental in our team’s development of our younger players,” Coach Duggan said.

Sophomore Ashlee Klinksick is a returning starter who is a good defender and playmaker.

Incoming freshmen India Willis and Emma Seaholm will make an immediate impact.

“Both had very good summers, with India being one of our leading scorers,” Duggan said. “She will play both guard and forward position while Emma will mostly play at the forward spot.”

“Our greatest strength this year, believe it or not, will be experience. Our seniors have experience in the conference and playing three years of high school ball, with our incoming freshman having played at a high level since they were young. Their game experience should provide a valuable asset for this team,” Duggan said. “Depth will be what we will be looking for this year. We will need two or three other ladies to step up and give us the depth on the bench to be successful.”

Macks Creek opens the regular season Nov. 19-20 at the BSN Tip-Off Classic in Rolla.

“We have high expectations for this group. Coming off a 7-17 season we look to turn that around and be competitive in every game,” Duggan said. “This team should be fun to watch this year. They get up and down the court and play hard.”
