Lady Bears stay undefeated at home against Southern

SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State Lady Bears picked up their 11th consecutive home victory Saturday afternoon with a 72-43 victory over Southern University at JQH Arena.Brice Calip finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists while playing in her 105th career victory, breaking Melody Howard’s school record. Jasmine Franklin added 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting and 10 rebounds, her eighth double-double of the season and 12th double-figure rebounding game in the last 13 outings. Sydney Wilson tallied 16 points and Paige Rocca scored a career-high 10.The Lady Bears (8-2) opened the game on an 8-0 run and never trailed, connecting on six consecutive field goals for a 14-4 lead and keeping that margin to 19-9 after a quarter.Consecutive 3-pointers from Rocca capped an 11-0 run with 3:38 left until halftime and put the Lady Bears ahead 35-13, MSU led 55-31 after three quarters and built its largest advantage at 67-31 thanks to a 12-0 start to the fourth period.Missouri State shot 47.2 percent in the game while holding the Lady Jags (2-8) to 31.4 percent overall and 3-for-17 from beyond the arc. The Lady Bears owned a 41-24 rebounding margin and dished out 18 assists on 25 made field goals.Calip also moved up to sixth on MSU’s career list in assists, while Franklin surpassed both 1,100 career points and 900 rebounds on the afternoon.Missouri State closes out the non-conference schedule Tuesday at 11 a.m. against Toledo (5-2).
