TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State dropped in 11 first-half 3-pointers and 14 for the game en route to a 76-72 upset of Missouri State here Tuesday at Hulman Center.
Isiaih Mosley led Missouri State with 25 points and 12 rebounds for his fourth career double-double and first this season. Gaige Prim added 15 points, while Donovan Clay, Ja’Monta Black and Lu’Cye Patterson each poured in eight for MSU (15-7, 6-3 MVC).
Indiana State (9-10, 2-5) got 16 points from Cameron Henry and 15 from Zach Hobbs, including four triples, while Nick Hittle also hit four treys and finished with 14 points.
The Bears fell behind 41-29 at the half and by as many as 17 in the second half before pouring it on late in the game to get within 74-72 after a 3-pointer by Black with 44 seconds to go.
After Black’s long bomb, the Bears got a defensive stop with Patterson snagging a critical defensive rebound. The Bears fed the ball to Mosley who drove to the bucket but couldn’t convert the potential game-tying bucket, and the Sycamores snagged the rebound.
Indiana State made its final two free throws with 4.4 seconds to go to ice its first home win over Missouri State since 2016.
The Bears finished 26-of-65 (.400) from the field, 7-of-29 (.241) from distance and 13-for-15 (.867) at the line.
The Sycamores were 25-of-59 (.424) overall, 14-for-27 (.519) from long range and 12-for-16 (.750) at the stripe with a 41-34 rebounding advantage. Indiana State committed 17 turnovers with MSU collecting 9 steals.
In the first half, Indiana State buried 11 3-pointers by six different players to lead by 12 at the midway point. The Bears led 6-0 out of the gates, but then made just one field goal over a critical nine-minute stretch, while ISU went on a 19-5 run with five treys in that span.
Mosley got hot late in the half, scoring all seven Bears’ points in the final three minutes to get the visitors within nine twice. But Indiana State got a pair of long bombs from freshman Hittle out of the corner to regain its 12-point advantage both times and ultimately took that lead into the locker room at the midway point.
ISU was 11-for-19 (.579) from distance in the opening period and just 4-of-17 from two-point range. The Bears shot 36.4 percent overall in the first half, including 2-of-14 from 3-point distance.
The Bears return to JQH Arena on Saturday for a matchup against Evansville at 7 p.m. to end the month.
