Bolivar, Mo- The SBU Men’s basketball team played host to the Greyhounds of Indianapolis this evening. The Bearcats extended their 5-game winning streak as they came out on top 72-62. That win moves them 17-4 (11-3 GLVC) giving the Bearcats their best record since 2008-09 season.

The Bearcats started out the game slow not getting into rhythm largely due to the solid defense of the Greyhounds. But they went on a 14-3 run in the final minutes of the first half to head into the locker room up 36-33.

“We just talked about playing with good pace and moving the ball, and I think as we did that we finally got some open looks and made some good basketball plays. I thought that was a reflection of our guys staying with it and continuing to move the ball and move people. As the game wore on I thought we got some better quality shots, than what we did early,” Head coach Clark Sheehy.

The Bearcats made 13 three’s on the night, with 12 of them coming from three different players. RJ Crawford had three 3’s in the first half and tied his career high in points with 19 in just the first half, he would go on to score 2 more to break it. Quinn Nelson shot perfect from the field going 4-4 from beyond the arc and finished the game with 19 points. Nico Aguirre tied his career high in three pointers made in a game hitting 5, with 2 coming in the final minutes of the game to seal the win. He finished the game with 16 points.

“I’m just happy the three’s went in; the mindset is all about getting the win. It doesn’t matter who hit them, we work really hard for it. We have to be ready for when it is our time,” Said Senior Aguirre.

“I thought RJ was great in the first half, he hit some timely shots, when we were really struggling to score. I thought Quinn hit a couple shots in the second half, that we really really needed and then obviously I thought Nico was really good down the stretch and gave us some really big possessions. I thought that was a gutty win, against a very good team,”- Sheehy.
