Mariah White Named MVC Newcomer Of The Week

ST. LOUIS – Mariah White of Missouri State women’s basketball has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for her performances this past weekend at Illinois State and Bradley, the league announced today.

White, a graduate transfer, had a strong weekend as she helped Missouri State go 2-0 on the road at first-place Illinois State and Bradley. White was the second-leading scorer for the Lady Bears across the weekend, averaging 13.5 ppg to go with 2.5 rpg. She also shot 48 percent (10-21) from the field, while dishing out four assists and getting two steals in just 49 total minutes off the bench.

On Friday night against the first-place Redbirds, White led the Lady Bears with a 21-point performance on 7-for-12 shooting from the field, while going 6-for-9 from the charity stripe. She scored 10 of her 21 points on 3-for-3 shooting from the field in the third quarter alone, while also grabbing three rebounds and dishing out two assists in the game.

On Sunday afternoon at Bradley, White had six points in addition to two rebounds and two assists as the Lady Bears swept their weekend on the road.

The award marks the first MVC honor of White’s career.

Missouri State will be back in action this week as the Lady Bears take on Evansville on Thursday, Feb. 24. First tip is set for 7 p.m. at JQH Arena.
