ST. LOUIS – For the fifth time this season, Missouri State guard Isiaih Mosley (Jr., Columbia, Mo.) has been named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Mosley helped catapult Missouri State into the No. 2 seed for the MVC Tournament for the first time since 2000 after an explosive final week of the regular season. The junior standout averaged 26.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game (all team highs) on the week with a pair of double-doubles to lead the Bears to a 2-0 week.
He started the week with his sixth 30-point game of the campaign as he posted 33 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists in a key win vs. Bradley that also included a pair of steals and two 3-pointers. In that game, he broke team records for points in a conference season (377), points at JQH Arena in a season (294), and scoring average at JQH Arena in a season (20.4), while tying a program record for most 30-point scoring games in a season (6).
Mosley followed that game with his second straight double-double, going for 20 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists Saturday at Evansville to lift MSU to its sixth Valley road win of the season (and 13th in two seasons). In that game, he also eclipsed 600 points for the season, just the seventh Bear to do so, and moved into the No. 5 spot on MSU’s single-season scoring list (619).
For the week, Mosley shot 59.4 percent from the field (19-of-32), 58.3 percent from three (7-of-12) and 80 percent at the line (8-of-10) with a block and three steals. He now has four double-doubles over the last 10 games heading into the postseason.
Mosley has also earned MVC Player of the Week on Dec. 13, Jan. 10, Jan. 17, Jan. 24, and Feb. 28, in addition to winning it three times last season.
Southern Illinois’ Ben Coupet Jr., was also honored Monday as this week’s MVC Newcomer of the Week.
The No. 2 seeded Bears will open up the 2022 MVC Tournament at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis on Friday night at 6 p.m. when they take on the winner of the 7-10 game between Valparaiso and Evansville. A win would send MSU to the Arch Madness semifinals for a third straight season, which would take place Saturday at 5 p.m. Sunday’s tournament championship game is set for 1 p.m.
