Lockwood softball will be small on numbers, but big on experience with seven lettermen returning this year.
“Our program is made up of young, hardworking players. Being that we are a small school, we average between 9-12 players a year,” Lockwood head coach Bobbi Abbiatti said. “Each year, we look to have just enough numbers to have a team. This will be my fourth year coaching and also my fourth year at Lockwood. Our record last year was 5-12; but with only losing two seniors from last year’s roster and returning seven lettermen, we are looking to improve from last year’s record.”
Lockwood’s roster will be made up of two freshmen, eight sophomores and two juniors.

“We will rely on our two sophomore pitchers Gatlyn Clawson and Adrien Neill. They both did well for us last year and I believe they can do it again this year,” Abbiatti said. “Shae Gray, who was our primary catcher, is also a sophomore and will see a lot of time behind the plate. She stepped up last year as one of our primary leaders as a freshman.”
Sophomore Grace Wilson will be one of Lockwood’s best offensive players out of the leadoff spot. She is a switch hitter who brings speed to the team. Junior Breckyn Brummett returns after leading team in batting average at .356.
Lockwood opens the season Mar. 18-19 at the Sarcoxie Tournament.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to coach this young group of girls again,” Abbiatti said. “They gained valuable experience last year and I know they are excited for this season to begin.”
