Mosley named as a finalist for Mid-Major Player of the Year honors

BOSTON — Missouri State standout Isiaih Mosley (Jr., Columbia, Mo.) was named as a finalist Monday for the 2022 Lou Henson National Player of the Year Award, also earning him Mid-Major All-America honors.

The 40 finalists for the award, which is presented annually to the top mid-major player in NCAA Division I college basketball, honors the former Illinois and New Mexico State head coach Lou Henson who won 775 games in 41 seasons. Henson is also the winningest coach in Illinois basketball history with 423 victories.

Mosley led the Bears to a 23-11 overall record and runner-up finish in the Missouri Valley Conference this season while helping coach Dana Ford’s squad to its first NIT appearance since 2011. He was named to the NABC All-District first team and USBWA All-Region first-teams after averaging 20.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. He also knocked down 70 3-pointers, shot 50.4 percent from the field, 42.7 percent from 3-point range and 90.2 percent at the free throw. His 692 points this season was the second-highest, single-season scoring total in program history.

A first-team All-MVC selection for the second year in a rwo, Mosley was a five-time MVC Player of the Week, earned a spot on the MVC All-Tournament Team and was named national player of the week by four organizations on Jan. 24. He was also named to the mid-major All-America first team by ESPN’s Kevin Connors and finished second in the MVC Larry Bird Player of the Year voting.

The 2022 Lou Henson National Player of the Year award will be announced on April 1 in New Orleans, site of the NCAA men’s basketball championship.
