The reigning Class 2 softball state champions have started their campaign to repeat at the top.

The Skyline Lady Tigers are looking to go back-to-back, but are adapting to a new team after graduating three key seniors.

“I think we’ll have a couple hiccups just because we had our 1,2,3 in our lineup the last four years, and kids have to come in and change a little bit and get out of their comfort zone,” Skyline softball coach Shawna Bybee said.

Filling in the gaps is a new trio of seniors Jadyn Foster, Jorden Hodges and Taylor Hunt.

Jadyn enters the season coming off an ACL injury, “She’s worked so hard to get back, be a leader, be competitive. I call her my silent leader,” Bybee said.

Jorden is the team’s top Pitcher, “She stands on the mound and has no emotion which is the best thing you want from a pitcher,” Bybee added.

Taylor does a little of everything, “She has a strong bat which will help us out this season,” said Bybee.

Together, the trio serves as leaders in a variety of ways.

“We try to get each other to work together, and communication is a big part of it. We have to be able to talk and we have a lot of younger ones that we have to help,” Jadyn Foster said.

“We have our core group coming back but we have a bunch of new spots that need to be filled,” Jorden Hodges added.

“We have a lot of raw talent this year I would say. We have great bats and really strong arms coming from the freshman,” said Taylor Hunt.

“We’re getting along so well as a team, we just bond really well together and we just work so well,” said Hodges.

As the Lady Tigers reestablish themselves, they’re ready for the journey back to the top.

“We’re excited for what we can do we just have to keep working hard,” said Foster.

“It’s really exciting to come back and see what we can do with all the new people. It really motivates me and my teammates to want to go back again and try to do it all over again,” Hodges said.
