Halfway through the month of April, Drury baseball has doubled the number of wins this season than they did all of last season.

On Saturday the Panthers looked to sweep a weekend series against SBU.

Drury took the first three games of the series and started the last game by scoring six runs in the first inning. The Panthers recorded 11 hits in the game and win 14-1.

Drury scored 48 runs in four games to sweep SBU and improve to 28-9 on the season.

“Continue to do what we’ve talked about which is get good starting pitching and we had that this weekend,” Drury baseball coach Scott Nasby said.

“Just mindset, guys buying in to their role and everyone knows what they need to do. There’s just one thing on every single person’s mind and that is win,” Panther senior Brant Schaffitzel added.

Drury has over 25 wins for the first time since 2019, led by a group of seniors putting the Panthers back on the map.

“We’re an experienced group we have ten seniors that have played pretty much since they were freshmen or transferred,” said Nasby.

“We know that winning is what happens here and what’s expected, so it’s great to get back to that and keep moving up the rankings,” said Schaffitzel.

When asked about their goals this season, Nasby said they do have their eyes on the postseason. However, right now they’re focused on the next game and the next series looking to continue their winning ways.
