Gomez having hot start for Springfield Cardinals

When you look at the Springfield Cardinals on paper this season it’s hard to look past how good of a season Moises Gomez is having in the batter’s box.

Moises Gomez crushes baseballs.

“Power display, it’s a different sound when he hits the ball,” Spring Cards manager Jose Leger said.

Gomez is a first-year Spring Bird and Leger noticed his power immediately.

“You can see the physical tools from the get-go. A strong guy, strong legs, and despite being a bigger guy he’s athletic,” Leger added.

Gomez’ athleticism has him batting lights out.

Through ten games he’s hitting .474 with 8 home runs, 16 RBI’s, and he gets on base nearly half the time he comes to the plate.

“He’s seeing the ball like a beach ball right now he’s not missing. He’s so locked in right now, every pitch,” said Springfield’s skipper.

For Gomez to get in his zone it all starts in practice.

“He goes about his routine in the cage, his concentration, his focus and it’s working out for him,” Leger said.

“I focus on the contact and I focus on the point of contact so I can keep my head on the ball and work up the middle,” Gomez added.

Despite his numbers, he says he’s keeping his focus forward.

“I want to start everything from zero, whatever happened yesterday, happened yesterday and I start everything from zero the next day and start all over again,” said Gomez.

Manager Jose Leger says he realizes that this level of success isn’t sustainable over an entire season as there are ups and downs, but that’s just baseball.
