Missouri State softball is near the top of the Missouri Valley Conference standings.
An important piece to their success is pitcher Steffany Dickerson.
In her fifth year at Missouri State, Dickerson is thriving.
“I kind of went into this year living my best life and just doing what I can since this is my last season,” she said.
With one final shot, she had one goal.
“I think my mentality is just last year, best year,” the senior added.
So far so good. Dickerson is averaging nearly a strikeout per inning tossing over 150 frames.
“She has command of all the pitches. She has a good screwball, good drop ball, good rise ball, a great changeup, good curveball. She has all the pitches, and she has great command of those pitches,” Missouri State softball coach Holly Hesse said.
Dickerson’s been Missouri Valley Pitcher of the Week three times. She also has a conference ERA of under one.
“That ERA is unheard of since the day I played right? We used the white ball and pitched at 40 feet. She is way, way, way above average for this level,” Hesse added.
Dickerson’s dominance also has her climbing up the school record books, as she’s 4th in career wins.
“My mentality is just get out there and get it done for my team because I know my team is going to have my back regardless,” Dickerson said.
That confidence is contagious.
“When you have a pitcher on the mound that is that dominating, the rest of the game falls into place,” said Hesse.
For Dickerson and the Bears, it’s all coming together at the right time.
