State Golf Day 2 Recap

The state golf tournaments finished up on Tuesday with the area bringing home one championships. Bolivar’s Aiden Asby won the Class 4 individual title while Cole Camp won the Class 1 team title.

CLASS 5

Kickapoo’s Gaige Lewis had a big second day of the Class 5 state tournament shooting a 73 to finish tied for 14th overall. Lewis finished with a combined 150 (+6). His 73 was tied for eighth-best round of Day 2. He was the lone area golfer to finish in the Top 25 in Class 5.

Rockhurst’s William King and Staley’s Bryson Oots tied atop the leaderboard with matching 141 (-3) total over two days. Rockhurst shot a 595 (+19) as a team to win the team title.

CLASS 4

Bolivar’s Aiden Asby brought home the Class 4 individual title with a blistering one-under 71 in the second round. He was even on the front nine with two birdies and two bogeys before a strong second nine where he picked up a stroke with two birdies and one bogey.

Lutheran South’s Andrew Hennen was hot on his heels also shooting a 71, but fell one stroke back in second place.

Hillcrest’s Damarkis Edwards was steady throughout the tournament shooting back-to-back 76’s to finish seventh overall with a 152 (+8). He finished tied with Carl Junction’s Jack Spencer who also went 76-76.

Lebanon’s Ethan Mustard charged up the leaderboard on Day 2 with a 71 of his own to finish tied for ninth with a 153 (+9). His second round was 11 strokes better than his first round yesterday. Mustard becomes the fourth ever Lebanon state medalist in golf and first since 2006.

Camdenton’s Gunnar Schuster and Branson’s Benjamin Presley finished tied for 12th with matching two-day totals of 155 (+11).

Branson’s Mark Bristow (T-15, 157) and Rolla’s Nicholas Jones (T-18, 158) also finished in the Top 25 for the area.

Rolla tied for third as a team with a two-day total of 655 (+79). Glendale finished sixth with a two-day total of 669 (+93).

CLASS 3

The area had three players in the Top 10 in Class 3 in Nevada’s Owen Swearingen (T-3), Monett’s Jaxon Bailey (T-6) and Reeds Spring’s Ty Cooper (8th). Swearingen shot a two-day total of 145 (+5) to finish one stroke off the leader. Bailey was two strokes back of him at 147 (+7). Cooper made a big Day 2 move with the low round of the day shooting an even par 70 to get to +8 (148) overall.

LeBlond’s Samuel Schoeberl and Hallsville’s Logan Cox each shot 144 (+4) to lead the tournament.

Catholic’s John Griesemer (14th, 153), Rogersville’s Tyler Davis (T-15, 154) and Hollister’s Garrett Snyder (T-15, 154) rounded out the area’s Top 25 finishers in Class 3.

Rogersville and Monett each shot matching totals of 686 (+126) to finish tied for sixth in the team competition.

CLASS 2

Owen Duddridge from Willow Springs was the area’s top finisher in Class 2 with a two-day total of 171 (+29) which had him tied for 13th. Devun Salazar from El Dorado Springs was one stroke behind him in a tie for 15th.

Greenwood’s Tommy Pinegar shot seven strokes better on Day 2 to work his way into the Top 25 at 21st place with a two-day total of 175.

Greenwood finished third as a team with a second-day team total that was 11 strokes better than day one. The Blue Jays posted a two-day total of 719 (+151), which was 48 strokes behind winner California.

Hermann’s Trigg Lindahl won the individual title with a two-day total of 148 (+6), which was four strokes clear of second place.

Willow Springs (741, +173), El Dorado Springs (787,+219) and Liberty (819, +251) finished tied for sixth, eighth and ninth in the team standings.

CLASS 1

Cole Camp won the Class 1 team title with a two-day total of 678 (+102). That beat No. 2 Marceline by three strokes.

It was a true team performance for the Bluebirds with four players finishing in the Top 20. Spencer Godwin paced Cole Camp with a two-day total of 167 (+23) to finish 10th. Tyler Howard (13th, 169), Matthew Bright (T-14, 170) and Gage Oelrichs (T-18, 172) were right behind him. Oelrichs was the Day 2 hero for Cole Camp shooting 10 strokes better than Day 1.

New Covenant’s Jackson McRoberts finished tied for 11th with a two-day finish of 168 (+24). He shot matching 84’s over the two rounds. Ash Grove’s Asher Rust tied for 14th with a 170 (+26). McAuley Catholic’s Rocc Bazzano-Joseph shot a two-day total of 173 to finish tied for 20th rounding out the area’s Top 25 finishers.

Westran’s Logan Bain won the top individual honor with a two-day total of 156 (+12).

Thomas Jefferson finished eighth as a team with a two-day total of 768 (+192).
