The Logan-Rogersville baseball team used a nine-run first inning run away with a 12-2 run-rule win over Summit Christian to advance to the Class 4 final four on Thursday in Lee’s Summit.
Rogersville (ranked No. 4 in Class 4) is back in the final four for the first time since 2014 when the Wildcats went to back-to-back final fours in 2013 and 2014. It is the fourth final four trip in program history.
On Thursday, Summit Christian (ranked No. 5 in Class 4) got one run off Rogersville starting pitcher Ross Lawrence in the top of the first inning.
Then the Wildcat bats went to work hanging nine runs on the Eagles in the bottom half of the inning.
Lawrence settled in on the mound and threw four scoreless frames before giving way the Blythe Blakey in the sixth. He finished with six strikeouts in the game.
Summit Christian got one run back in the top of the sixth before Rogersville scored two in the bottom of the frame to complete the run-rule victory. It was the second consecutive run-rule win and third in the last four games for Rogersville
The Wildcat offense has been unstoppable in the month of May. They have scored 102 total runs across eight games (12.75 runs per game) since the calendar turned to May. Rogersville is 7-1 in that stretch with the lone loss coming to Class 5 quarterfinalist Willard by a 16-15 margin.
Rogersville will play its state semifinal game at 10 am on Wednesday, Jun. 1 against the winner of Kennett and Affton. Kennett is ranked No. 1 in Class 4 while Affton is unranked with a 9-10 overall record.
