The Springfield Lasers will not be returning to Cooper Tennis Complex in 2022.
Jenny Edwards of the Springfield Greene County Park Board tells KY3 Sports the Lasers will not play any home matches this year.
The team is not currently scheduled to play any matches at all.
Edwards says World Team Tennis has yet to communicate a plan with her and other Lasers management, and it’s unclear if the league even plans to hold a season.
It appears the World Team Tennis website has not been updated since November 2021.
The Lasers have played the last two years at remote sites with the rest of the league because of the pandemic.
Edwards says the park board wanted to host matches this year, and hopes to do so again in 2023.
She also says she has received several messages and phone calls from Lasers fans asking about the team’s plans.
KY3 Sports has reached out to World Team Tennis for comment but has not yet gotten a response.
