Warsaw football had its best season since at least 2010 last year by going 9-2 overall and scoring 36.5 points per game while yielding just 16.2 points per game.
“Last year we were able to have a lot of success throughout the season. We had a good balance of seniors and underclassmen contribute to this,” Warsaw head coach Ryan Boyer said. “We look to build off the momentum that we created last season.”
Two third-team all-state selections in Brady Slavens and Garrett McGann graduated from last year’s team. Slavens threw for 986 yards and 13 touchdowns while rushing for 1,748 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also was tied for second on the team with 54 tackles. McGann earned his all-state honor as an offensive lineman, but was also strong on defense with 37 total tackles.
Six offensive and eight defensive starters return from the 2021 team along with 20 total lettermen.
Four of those returning starters were two-way all-conference players in 2021.
Cameron Seevers was first-team all-conference at wide receiver and defensive back as a junior. He hauled in 29 receptions for 740 yards and nine touchdowns averaging 25.5 yards per catch. Defensively, he was a star in the secondary with a team-high six interceptions. The rest of the team combined had five interceptions.
Senior Nick Bagley earned first-team all-conference honors as a linebacker and second-team honors at running back. Bagley pulled down a team-high 58 tackles last year on defense while rushing for 558 yards and six touchdowns on offense.

Senior Tayten Boyer earned first-team all-conference honors as a linebacker and second-team all-conference honors as a wide receiver. He played safety and had 37 tackles on defense with 130 yards receiving on offense. Boyer will play quarterback this year.
Gage Whitaker gives Warsaw a fourth returning senior player with two-way all-conference honors on his resume. He was honorable mention at running back and linebacker. Offensively, Whitaker had 87 carries for 538 yards and nine touchdowns. Defensively, he tied for second on the team with 54 total tackles.
Junior Devon Boul is the only returning starting offensive lineman for Warsaw. Sophomore Jayce Depriest rounds out the returning offensive starters at tight end. He also is a returning starter at linebacker on defense.
Riley Taylor (junior DL/LB), Wyatt Gemes (junior DL) and Ty Williams (sophomore DB) are the other returning defensive starters.
Newcomers to watch include: Hudson Karr (senior OL/LB), Austin Schibi (junior OL/DL), Nate Banfield (junior WR/DB) and Elliot Kowal (junior OL/DL).
“I am excited for this upcoming season,” Coach Boyer said. “Our boys have been working hard and doing everything asked of them. Our community has been great in supporting our program and helping out in any way possible.”
Warsaw opens the season on Aug. 27 at KC Central.
