Lockwood volleyball will look to take a big step forward from last year’s six-win campaign behind a group of seven returning juniors.

That returning junior group includes Grace Wilson (OH), Adrien Neill (OH), Shae Gray (setter), Kelsey Daniel (MH), Hannah Steeley (MH), Payton Wilson (OH/DS) and Page Beerly (DS).

Wilson, who enters her third year as a starter, led the team with 139 kills last year. She also has a strong serve as evidenced by her 55 aces in 2021. Neill was third on the team with 108 kills as a sophomore. Gray brings a great knowledge of the game and leadership to the court. Daniel and Steeley both return to the middle this year. Wilson and Beerly will see more varsity action this year.

“They are a very close group and get along well,” Lockwood head coach Jamie Roschevitz said. “They work hard and they want to win. They have had a lot of varsity experience since a young age. They are always looking for ways to improve and work very hard to get to the level they want to be at.”

Lockwood opens the season on Aug. 27 at the Verona Tournament.

“Overall expectations are high,” Roschevitz said. “No matter the age or number of girls at Lockwood we always expect our athletes to work hard and achieve their goals. I expect them to compete at a high level, work well together, play for each other and never give up. I expect my girls to work hard to become overall well-rounded players.”
