Summersville volleyball is looking to claim a third district title in four years with a roster of 11 players capable of contributing to the varsity equation.
“We have young players with inexperience being their only issue, which isn’t a bad issue to have in my opinion,” Summersville head coach Davi Boyle said. “We have three seniors and a junior that are great leaders and role models and really stepped up to the plate already this season. Our biggest strength is definitely our determination, our scrappy defense and aggressive offense. We are very reactive this season and plan to go far.”
The players Boyle expects to contribute on varsity are: Alyssa Peifer (senior setter and right side), Kailey Bradley (senior outside hitter and left back defense), Emma German (senior left back defense), Kaitlyn Martin (junior right side hitter), Claire Jewett (sophomore middle hitter), Elizabeth Havens (sophomore outside hitter), Kari Jordan (freshman middle hitter), Ashton Brawley (freshman setter), Kaylin Heiney (freshman libero), Jaiden German (sophomore right side and outside) and Jaylin Halstead (sophomore defensive specialist).

Boyle on Peifer: “Peifer will be seeing more of the floor this year running our offense and also getting to be a big part of our offense. Peifer has been working her tail off all summer to improve in every way possible. She has a good strong set of hands and the brains to go with it.”
Boyle on Bradley: “Bradley is an all-around player. She played middle last year. Bradley is going to be a big hitter, and no doubt lead us in kills this season with her explosive arm swing. She will be a strong part of our defense as well.”
Boyle on Emma German: “German will bring a calm to our team this year. Her defense is always on point. We always trust her to get the job done. She give nothing less than 110% at all times. German has stepped up this year and took on more of a leadership role.”
Boyle on Martin: “Martin will be a huge block and a big hitter for us this year. Martin is a versatile player and can play anywhere in the front row. She also has a good set of hands to help run the offense whenever needed. Kaitlyn is one of our more dominant players and motivated to get it done this season.”
Boyle on Jewett: “Jewett was a setter last season for JV. I have a good feeling Claire is going to be a big deal this season with her outstanding vertical and quick whip of an arm swing.”
Boyle on Havens: “Havens played right side on JV last season. Havens is our work horse no doubt. She will be our other outside hitter and strives to be an all-around player for next season. Havens is also a strong block for us. We are looking to see really big things out of her this season.”
Boyle on Jordan: “Jordan is our spark plug. She’s young but not scared to step up and lead. Jordan is our other aggressive middle hitter and can really play anywhere on the net. She is going to put up a block for us this season.”
Boyle on Brawley: “Brawley is by far one of the mentally toughest players we have throughout our team. She has great hands and plays flawless defense. Her work ethic and attitude is a big deal for our team this season.”

Boyle on Heiney: “Heiney is a scrapper with great court awareness. Heiney is a primary passer with an aggressive offensive attack. Heiney is young but shows improvement every time she touches a ball.”
Boyle on Jaiden German: “German played outside on JV last year and will be seeing some varsity floor this season. German brings big communication when she she’s in the game. She is an all-around player that can be put anywhere on the floor and give 100%.”
Boyle on Halstead: “Halstead’s quick reaction, amazing defense and big energy on the varsity floor is a huge bonus for us this season. Even being on the sidelines, she’s everyone’s biggest fan and is always being the best teammate she can possibly be.”
Summersville will host a jamboree on Aug 23 with Licking and Salem before opening the season on Aug. 26 at home against South Iron.
