ST. LOUIS – Missouri State men’s soccer goalie Harry Townsend was selected as the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced today.

He received the honor following MSU’s games against Air Force and Lindenwood on Sept. 2 and 5, where the Bears shutout the Falcons, 0-0, and the Lions, 3-0.

In both matches, Townsend led MSU’s defensive efforts, registering six saves through two games. In four matches, Townsend holds a season goals against average of .250, and his .750 shutout percentage ranks seventh in the NCAA. The junior goalkeeper has started every match and played all 360 minutes of the team’s four games this season.

MSU continues its season on its home turf this weekend, when the Bears host the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m.
