Drury men’s hoops picked to finish 8th in GLVC Preseason Poll

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Drury Panthers are picked to finish eighth in the GLVC in the preseason coaches’ poll.

Drury received 68 points, 19 behind seventh place Missouri-St. Louis. Indianapolis is picked to win the GLVC with seven first-place votes and 136 points. Southwest Baptist comes in at a close second with 131 points and five first-place votes. Lewis is the other team that received a first-place vote, with one, as well as 107 points. The coaches could not vote for their own team.

This will be the first year since the 2019-20 season that the GLVC will not include divisions. The top eight teams, as determined by the conference’s Point Rating System, will advance to the GLVC Championship Tournament on March 2-5, 2023. The location of the tournament is yet to be determined.

Chris Foster will enter his second season as head coach at Drury and his ninth season as a collegiate head coach. Foster brings in 13 newcomers, including three Division I transfers Preston Cook (Auburn), Brady O’Connell (Old Dominion), Brock Wakefield (The Citadel), and one Division II transfer, Adam Moore (Quincy). The Panthers also have three returners, led by by junior guard Quenton Shelton, who averaged 10.8 points last year.

The Panthers open the 2022-23 season with an exhibition against Creighton, ranked number nine in NCAA-I, in Omaha on Sunday at 6 pm. They tip off the regular season on Friday, November 11 against Northwood at 6 pm in the Greenstay Inn & Suites Tipoff Classic, in the O’Reilly Family Event Center. Drury takes on Lake Superior State at 3 pm the following day.
